Modern Christmas Tree

Back in the early 70's in NJ. I had a neighbor who every year would come up with the wildest Christmas trees. And with that every year we would make a Christmas visit to see her latest concoction. But it was in 1977 Mrs. P. lit my imagination with what I felt was the best of her trees. There in her tiny living room stood a plain tree sans leaves. It had been painted white with hundreds of snowflakes and quarter sized mirrors hanging from its bare branches. Alas in typical 70's style her lighting was the fabulous tree light that sat at the base of the tree multi colored rotating light flashed upon the mirrors. Fast forward 36 years.
The tree I did was approximately 14 feet tall.

How to make the Modern Tree.
1. Cut down or find a dead tree the height you will need. Spray paint the tree your color of choice. My tree took 3 full cans of white paint.
2. For the base fill c garden container with small stones to give the tree both support and stability.
3. Starting from the top wind the lights of your choice around and up and down each large branch.
4. Most dollar or craft stores carry inexpensive plastic snow flakes you can add glitter to them or leave them plain. Using a nylon tread string and hang each snowflake occasionally double hanging the snowflakes for a more detailed look.
5. The skirt was a large piece of white satin with small white light and netting layered for a snow drift look. (Never leave trees or lights unattended or on when you are not at home)
6. I used garland made from crystals accents with glass icicles. Adding the white doves gave the tree additional natural feeling. All of my trees have red cardinals as my trade mark.
